A boy was decapitated when he hit a metal pole on a water slide in Kansas. In an indictment, the authorities said that company officials knew that the slide posed serious dangers for riders.https://nyti.ms/2GpWIDw

I work in the aquatic safety world and from what I have heard is that when they were testing this slide out they would put 50lb sand bags on it but they'd fly off at the peak, so they put seatbelts that were loose and not checked dayly and opened it up anyway.

If you get on something that looks dangerous it probably is dangerous, it's not the parks fault it's parents fault, there is no garuntee of safety. You want to be safe bubble wrap your kids and never go out. Oh and put them in a bubble to prevent diseases. It's called freedom.

I read the article and it's the same bullshit that closed hydro tubes. People take risks, then when the risks don't work work they want to blame someone. If you want a person to blame for taking a risk look in the mirror. The reasonable fair thing to do is mandate injury lists

The law is not on the side of the amusement park. Unless there is a sign that says injury or death may occur by using this ride, they are liable. It is reasonable to assume you are safe when you pay admission to an amusement park. Otherwise, they’d be called death parks.

Of course I skied off triple black diamond ski runs for fun in my healthier years, that is basically jumping off a cliff. Ski resorts have no such illusions about safety.

There’s a difference between ski resorts and amusement rides, excluding the chair lift.

I ran the chair lifts... those are so very dangerous. If you don't have a competent operator who knows all the safety features it can go very badly.

My point in all this is that it’s not reasonable to expect your 10 year old child may be decapitated on a water slide. The park rushed the design and installation and knew it was dangerous. They wouldn’t of paid the family $20 million otherwise.

Given that dad was one of the Kansas legislators who lured Schlitterbahn to the midwest to build this monster I'd say he's more likely dealing with a metric ton of guilt. All of us here in KC knew this was a terrible idea from the start - it was bad news from day 1.
