Students on the South Side of Chicago joined protests spurred by the Florida school shooting, but they also felt frustration. Why hadn't gun violence in their community earned the same outrage?https://nyti.ms/2Gbn2Ot

America has always been “selective” in their outrage. This isn’t news. The black community needs to lift itself up & not expect help from society at this point in time. We are merely citizens, not necessarily viewed as Americans

Your feelings seem very valid, sadly. Seems the #March4OurLives is open to including all gun violence communities, independent of race; this needs to be reinforced politically. I hope that banding together into a large, powerful, galvanizing force will help all communities.

I agree but why do they keep following the @DNC when they have done nothing for black communities. They just talk about it for votes!

What have the GOP done for black communities, Jackie? I expect a list. There’s a heck of a lot more Dems actively working in black communities than there are Republicans.

Because black crime and violence is a problem all across North American cities, even Canada...it isn’t the guns.

Wait; the gun violence started like any other, but in their case it was allowed to fester. If schools shootings, mostly done by white kids, is allowed to fester, we’d think the problem is the kids. But here we’re demanding change before it goes too far! Noticed the difference?

I think you are missing the difference. White school shootings are usually done by legal firearms obtained through normal means. That is the crux of the issue. Also school shootings and gangland crime are not close to the same thing

Interesting article but it may be also worth your time to do a headline comparison analysis to see how you, the Times, portray those acts of violence versus domestic shootings. You might find you’re part of the problem too.

The narrative of violence in Chicago is detrimental to the narrative for #GunControl. Come on! The left doesn't care if people die, they only care about scoring cheap political points. Caring about dead suburban high schoolers scores a massive bonus. #MarchForOurLives

I have been outraged. But even the parkland kids said, they were privileged. By the fact that their voices were louder than others who had lived through this as their bread and butter, and that’s how they knew they were privileged
