For decades, Americans have believed that the best way to end racial inequality is to end class inequality. But a landmark 30-year study is debunking that logic.http://nyti.ms/2IM6XR4

Why are you touting a "landmark 30 year study" when books by Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Colson Whitehead, Zadie Smith, & so many others have already debunked that "logic"?

The study is fascinating and valuable! But don't make absurdly sweeping and almost definitely untrue statements on twitter to call people's attention to it. Yeesh.

I'm sure the study is valuable, but some of the best writing on this topic already exists & has in some cases for decades, in books that are begging to be read in libraries all over the country & that offer a better reading experience than a study ever could.

There is a slight difference between an academic study using quantitative measures and brilliantly written first person narratives and observations. They're both needed; its easy to dismiss one without the other.

I heard Leonard Pitts speak once. He maintained that MLK was organizing poor people across racial lines to join together for their common betterment - just before he was killed.

Lmao which Americans? Because black Americans have spent years trying to explain the “its classism not racism” talking point is bullshit.

So when you guys write a headline like this and you get a lot of responses from a group in opposition to the initial premise of the tweet/headline, does it make you rethink the tweet/headline? Or do y’all just plow right on ahead not factoring the voice of the people?
