In Opinion Op-Ed columnist @FrankBruni writes: You would choose a pilot who had flown 999 flights over one with nine. So why the romance with candidates who have never done a stitch of government work before?http://nyti.ms/2ILeJdC

If the pilot keeps crashing planes I need to consider flying with someone else

Pretty straightforward. It's because we hope they haven't had the corruption and back pocket deals run them yet. American politics isn't about the people, it's about the pride of the parties, the power, and the money.

However, if they have some knowledge (even if only college one) or experience (as party member and minor political work) on that, I do believe they should run for office and even win. What can't happen is putting a murrow as your current president is on office.

Because they're a fresh face, a hope of renewal. Voting for someone who had "flight" 999 million hours and did nothing from it it's perpetuate the situation you're not happy with. I really believe that celebrities with no knowledge or experience in politics should stay away...

Because they're not invested in the status quo, for starters. The last two decades have proven how ineffective politicians are when their only consistent goal is re-election.

Airplanes don’t have a systematic corrupting influence on pilots.

Your analogy doesn't work. In this case the pilots are flying in different directions. You can choose the one with more experience, but he won't necessarily get you to where you want to go.

Because the experienced one is pay to play, disingenuous as a champion of progressive causes, and built a governing coalition with the opposing party instead of building up the NY State Democrats

Probably because “government work” today means corruption.
