I researched how to, then completely deleted years ago. On the day of their IPO, at 2am UK time, I got a message from Facebook saying welcome back, they still had all the information. I deleted again, but I have no faith the bastards have actually deleted it.

it IS easy. find other ways to store your pictures and hang out with your friends. for those that find it too difficult to delete: the fact that this single for-profit corporation has this much power over your life is THE reason you need to cut all ties.

Anyone who still thinks that there is privacy on Facebook (or anywhere online) should turn in their cell phones and laptops immediately. They are dangerously naive and shouldn't be allowed online.

My wife just deleted her account. She'd been on Facebook since 2004 when it first came out.

I deleted Facebook about 2 years ago. I didn’t like who I was and didn’t like who everyone claimed to be. Public fights between loved ones, disrespecting each other, and not being able to back it up face to face. Stolen information had nothing to do with it.
