The police spent hours inside the home of the suspect's parents. A detective with the Austin police said the family was cooperating and was allowing investigators to search the property.http://nyti.ms/2G11pA4

It's implied, but it's not said. What's much more explicitly stated is this is a poor boy who lost his way. He's a domestic terrorist. Start with that.

They can't say that if he has a certain skin color. He has to be "troubled" or "radicalized."

Something is getting lost in translation here and it might be because I'm trying to get work done with my phone blowing up, but *I* wasn't being sarcastic at all.

No, Ahmed Mohamed (the boy who got arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school), that young man is nerdy. This guy was a racist murderer. Is it just me or is the NYT increasingly adopting a glib credulity that reflects poorly on their shifting editorial choices?

I wonder if the @nytimes reached out to family friends of the 9/11 disturbed young men to get positive quotes for their soft profiles. I heard Mohamed Atta liked grilled cheese sandwiches and Blink 182.

Fair enough, but not exactly a humanizing article if you read it. Atta was always called a terrorist. No one called him a "challenged young man". I understand trying to get insight into a monster, but call a spade a spade.
