Teachers are educated professionals required to have a Masters degree and obtain a State professional license which they have to take Continuing Ed classes to keep the licesne active. Yet the national average salary is 36k per year. Wrong for such an important job ! #GoOKLikeWV

Teachers have to work nights, summers and weekends? What kind of school is this? Or do you mean second jobs?

Seriously - how can raising and educating the next generation of Americans be worth SO LITTLE to people like Rosie?

That’s the job of the parents. A good teachers work can be wiped out the next year by a bad teacher or unfit parents.

I certainly hope they get more than the 5% we walked for.....It is time for states to pay teachers a living wage. And limit the number of hours to 40 per week.

I don't know if the best thing for people trying to prove that they're dedicated educators is to go on strike, and refuse to educate the children they claim to care so much about. There are ways to negotiate that don't involve holding the students hostage.

What are their ways to negotiate? The best way to protest is to disrupt daily life so people are forced to acknowledge it

They can hold protests on weekends, or choose not to take part in extracurricular activities (Things that aren't part of the student's education.) Just don't think it's right to disrupt students education over a strife that isn't their fault.

Sometimes you've just gotta rip the bandage off. During the civil rights movement, should the protesters not have boycotted segregated stores because little Timmy's dad ran it and it had to go out of business?

Boycotting stores for violating civil rights, is not the same thing as not giving children the education that they have a right to, because the government won't agree to pay you more money than you currently make.
