After we published an article on tipping and the power imbalance it creates between customers and servers, readers wrote in with their own experiences — on both sides of the equationhttp://nyti.ms/2tYRwl9

We should follow the custom in Europe. No tipping and restaurants pay a living wage. Then any bad behavior can be dealt with by management.

No server/bartender in their right mind would work for min wage over being tipped.

Customers subsidize workers’ wages because corporations won’t pay a living wage. This is why many countries don’t have this policy. It’s asinine & should end.

That’s called using your head, bud. Try it some time. Or, are you comfortable handing out corporate welfare while calling on the people who receive it to stop being “lazy”? See that? To have this conversation you first need to stay in school. Good luck!

Power imbalance? When we get to the restaurant: the hostess is all powerful. Once we sit, the waitress is the Lord of the Table. After we give our order, the Lord has to work with the king of the kitchen. How well they work, will determine the kindness of the G0d of tipping.
