The only problem with self driving cars is a lack of someone to blame. I don’t doubt for a single second that overall, roads will become much safer if human error was taken out of driving.
Oh I’m sure uber will be blamed in the form of a massive lawsuit
Also it’s a way to have Our loved ones, meeting up with evil, strangers, porn, sick stuff I sure, Things I can’t imagine.pic.twitter.com/VweVz5iovU
33,000 people die each year in the US and millions are in accidents due to humans' inability to drive. AVs will save millions of lives worldwide over the next 10-15 years while allowing better land use and dramatically curbing emissions. This is technology our world needs. Badly.
And countless others who suffer gruesome injuries, permanent damage, etc.
There is literally no technology besides maybe gene editing which will have such widespread positive effects on humanity. Unlike gene editing, those benefits are likely to flow quickly to folks with less money because mobility will become significantly cheaper.
Don't you want it done by folks who are actually good at it, tho? Don't stand up for Uber until we know how they got here.
Agree Uber needs to explain. I was responding to the comment that suggested that autonomous vehicles were an instance of tech looking to sell something the public didn't want. We need better, safer, cheaper mobility and AVs can deliver it soon, not perfect but better than humans.
About 37 000 die in car crashes a year. 1 from autonomous. Wonder what's safer.
Millions of classic cars and ~100 autonomous on the streets - math is tricky...
Thank you. The problem with their point should be obvious, yet I've seen so many of those today.
Except 1/3 of those fatalities is due to imparied driving due to the operator. Also active investigation.
Cars dominate our lives. We work for them, we spend time in them, they're a huge drain on our finances, and they pollute the air and they dominate the landscape via parking lots, freeways, etc. To top all that, they kill us in the thousands. I want a solution to that
Cash in? No one was screaming for cell phones either, but now you have people lining up for days to purchase the newest iPhone.
Who is going to jail then?, someone has to, similar to an accident where humans are driving.
true.. combine it with the intel-leak of compromised chips in every computer.. remote access cars ..
This idea is a good thing. Its just in its infancy right now.
