When asked if women were equal to men, Prince Mohammed said: "Absolutely. We are all human beings and there is no difference." But women in Saudi Arabia are still bound by so-called guardianship laws.http://nyti.ms/2GHOMv1

Social Roles, function and equality are not contradictory in their differences. For Muslim faith and culture women are equal but not in the same liberal sense as in western Christian culture. Women are not inferior, their responsibilities are different. Analogy: Children.

Sure. Women are “equal.” But only in the ways men decide they are and only for the rights and lifestyle men decide for them so as not to violate any divine instruction.

Saudi's Prince. He gave women various rights after he came to Saudi's "office", such as allowing them to drive for the first time. Again, it is the issue of society.

As per Quran. Women are one degree less than the man. {And they [the women] have [rights] like [the obligations] they are under with beneficence, and men have a degree above them, and Allah is Ever-Mighty, Ever-Wise} (Al-Baqarah 2:228).

This is true however you can't take it out of context. In those days men were responsible for women all their lives. They had to support their wives, sisters, mothers and even cousins if needed. It's nothing like the world we live in now.

One would hope the changes are real & this leader isn’t just blowing smoke. The 60 Minutes interview was more of a “rehabilitation” of the Saudi image than it was substance. In part, because they realize they’ll need tourism dollars that aren’t there.
