Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School officials considered forcibly committing Nikolas Cruz for psychiatric evaluation in 2016. An involuntary commitment of that kind could have kept him from passing a background check required to buy a firearm.http://nyti.ms/2FPQtoT

Enforcing current laws, regulations and policies, not tougher gun laws would have stopped this from happening. Done. So who let it happen? Fire all of them.

One wonders how many more Mr. Cruzes are out there. Whether there are just too many to manage within our legal and enforcement systems. All of them with guns. None of them receiving adequate mental health care.

Don't think it would have prevented it since Trump had reverted Obama's mental health law weeks prior to Cruz buying his legal AR15

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. I'll try to educate you out of ignorance. You're referring to something that only involved social security recipients. Please do research before you repeat bullshit leftist talking points.https://www.nationalreview.com/blog/corner/no-gop-did-not-just-repeal-background-check-system-or-give-guns-mentally-ill/ …

This killer and many other disturbed are given breaks that not everyone is afforded to keep their records clean. We as a society have to start looking at troubled people differently and stop doing favors for people who don’t deserve them. His family let him down worse of all.

He also made “criminal” threats, which had the school & county sheriff’s office dealt with, would have prevented Cruz from legally buying a gun. But, liberals have their race-based school-to-prison pipeline theory to peddle.

The problem, and conundrum, is obvious. We rarely commit people with psychiatric problems against their will. Most mentally insane walk free. The dilemma is how to prevent the overuse & abuse of involuntary commitment, while protecting society from the violent psychotics...

Exactly! In the past, involuntary commitment was used fraudulently to get someone out of the way and take over their assets. Laws were changed to make it harder to commit someone, so now we have truly disturbed people able to get guns. Gotta change!!

This young man was crying out for help. This is where we as a nation are failing our children by not creating communities which tend to the mental health of our children. Are we too busy with our careers to pay attention. Kids first Media!! Report on Kids!!

Look, seems EVERYONE'S GUILTY HERE EXCEPT THE SURVIVORS of this HORRIFIC ACTION. Everyone else on the Trump-Train & their grandmom are trying to deflect the optics AWAY FROM THE NRA. WHY?? I wonder, could it be the MONEY??? Just a guess from this simple American Girl.

The kid has problems and has had them for a long time. It’s sad that any young man or woman’s mental health can get this bad without someone stepping in. Nobody wants to live like that...incarceration won’t fix his problems. He will be a dependent until death.
