The Golden Gate Bridge was built 80 years ago & sees more than 100k vehicles a day & is just fine. So, will someone please explain how 80 years of advancement in technology & engineering can lead to a footbridge collapsing in 5 days. FFS

When you weaken state & local government regulations and reduce the number of trained, experienced inspectors, people die. Govt. exists
-
2 protect the public from the power of more powerful corporate interests. If u don’t respect & support a strong government, more people die.

Sounds like the authorities in Florida are dropping the ball when it comes to checking out tips and leads, seems to me like if they would've reacted to these warnings a lot of people would still be here

Negligent. Roman engineers had to sleep under new structures while the army crossed on it. Tests that produce focus.

Deja Vu??? Remember something about messages & warnings left before on officials voicemails that were also ignored.....

You have to do more than "leave a voicemail"; I mean really people, what was the engineer thinking. Are there no protocols for what to do if signs of fracture are evident? Leave a voicemail? How can that possibly be a protocol for such a hazard?

Really!!! That engineer should loose his credentials. No engineer would ever say there's no safety concerns on a concrete cracked that developed within hours of installed. Even a toddler can tell you that you must dig deeper into this fresh concrete crack on a new installation

Same engineering firm that worked on the pedestrian bridge that collapsed in Florida also designed failed bridge approaches for the Delaware Indian River Inlet bridge in 2007 which were scrapped when discovered.

It would be cheaper to construct a high quality bridge that will stand for decades rather than one that will collapse on victims, giving each of them million dollar injury law suits.

the design looked clumsy , wrong materials, too dam heavy for the span ratio despite the diagonal trusses... lighter materials like steel would have been great
