A tourist helicopter’s deadly crash in the East River should spur the city to act, @GiniaNYT writes. Here’s her case for a ban.http://nyti.ms/2Dutxd7

How many people died in car crash in NY ? Do you recommend a ban on cars for that same reason ? #Fools

Maybe try reading the article before calling people names? Accidents are, as always, an opportunity to reflect, a possible tipping point. The actual reasons for banning them are ecological, not safety. They're about nose complaints, about residents vs. tourists, rich vs. poor...

That's mere bullshit. 80 helico flights a day, polluting 43 more by the hour than a car, is negligible as compared to car pollution in NYC.

I think most people just find them a noisy nuisance. The fact that they already limited it to 80 per day should tell you that. The pollution, the fact that they are expensive, that there are accidents ... all of that is mostly justification from people who are already annoyed ;-)

Idea lacks clarity of thought: Crash is a safety issue, not pollution. Why not ban tour buses? They cause pollution and crash very often

If we let them take our helicopters, then they’ll come for our golf carts.

Theyve been trying to ban the tourist helicopters for years. Not gonna happen unless tourists stop forking over $200+ a pop for a ride. Also these crashes seem to happen with ONE operator.

“The Airbus AS350...produces 43 times the amount of carbon dioxide emissions per hour than the average car.” So, like the jobs at risk figure, next to nothing by percentage in Manhattan. The safety argument makes sense. The environmental one, not so much.
