@netflix Seriously Netflix? The mainrole gets less paid than the support role??? because the mainrole is a woman? WTH??? I loved the serie and i wished there were more seasons, but just for this reason i dont mind anymore. Claire was why i watched the damm show! Brilliant actress

I think it’s more about the bigger name. Matt is more well known and worked in higher profile projects in the past. Terrence Howard for example was paid more than Robert Downey Jr in the first “Iron Man” film as an example.

I understand at times it does happen that a more known name gets cast in a support role, but if u look to the bigger picture and what has been going on for some years now that women are paid so much less... its ridiculous to let it still happen! I know i single out netflix now...

Oh I know it’s a big issue with Hollywood and how they pay women, but I don’t think this is the best case to use in that regard as it has more to do with name recognition.

If he was too expensive they could have found another actor to play a supporting role. She is he main character. Playing the queen in a show about the queen and still getting payed less then the male supporting actor.

Nonsensical. Pay based on fame and experience not gender.

Actually- pay based on the worth of product. In this case acting. A lead actor in a series revolving around said lead that clearly attracts viewers, vs. a supporting role. They clearly decided lead was and is good enough for lead- lead should be paid as such.

Well SHE SIGNED FOR IT. What's the problem here, that she didn't ask for more money. DON'T SIGN FOR IT IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY.

She had no way of knowing how much her costar was making when she signed for it. Her agent messed up here.

So when you interview for a job, they tell you what everybody in that role and in the company earns right? I’m pretty sure if you thought hard before tweeting, you would not have tweeted what you just did

No, but a company's internal equity/comp team better damn well make sure that similar roles are compensated fairly.

You are entirely ignoring the fundamental problem of sexism within the film industry. Neither of you 'get it'.

Yea that exists but u can't ignore the fact that Matt is a much bigger draw for audiences. Especially uk based audiences. Who would be the bigger draw laura dern or leven rambin? Would u pay them the same for playing the queen? If so that's a terrible business decision.
