Why do so many Americans kill one another, and how can the violence be stopped? The CDC quit studying these and other questions over 20 years ago.http://nyti.ms/2FDopVB

The CDC "quit" studying gun violence? Nooooo....Congress PROHIBITED them from studying gun violence. Big difference.

Yeah but that is not relevant to my reply which is about the use of the word quit

They didn’t quit voluntarily, they were defunded by the Dickey Amendment. Stop with the misleading statements.

The NRA wanted to remove funding for the research. They contacted their locally bought Republican and he wrote a bill banning the research. Simple as that. #NeverTrustARepublican

It’s not the gun needs studying! It’s the people using the gun! Guns cant do anything on their own! If someone wants to commit a crime they are going to find a way to do it! If there isn’t a gun they will get a knife, ballbat, bomb, poison. Guns aren’t the problem!!

'Quit' isn't the word I'd use: Blame the Dickey amendment, introduced in 1996; the legislation forbade the use of federal $$ to advocate or promote gun control - Congress that year also cut the budget for the CDC by the exact amount it had previously devoted to firearm research.

They didn't quit studying it. The NRA lobbied and won a ban on federal dollars spent to study gun violence. But, they're not a lobbying organization, right? 🙄

Stopping research on controversial topics is a bad move. We need more high-quality research on gun control, not less.
