For some people. Been trying for years. Still trying, ‘cause might as well do something to try and alleviate the depression, but very little-to-no results for me.
-

Also linked to many many suicides . Class action lawsuits are what prompted mandatory warnings about suicide risks, previously ignored.

Not because they increase suicidal thoughts, but because they increase people's general motivation. Hence why talk therapy is also necessary.

I felt the need to point that out cuz a lot of people see the black box warnings and don't understand why they're used as treatment, and some of the comments here are along the lines of "these things are poison." These medicines are too nuanced for a tweet, you understand.

Antidepressants are only as effective as the doctor that is prescribing them and the relationship they have with the patient. Often when antidepressants are seemingly "ineffective", there is a secondary diagnosis (ie anxiety disorder/personality disorder) that needs treated.
-
Science in the mental health pharmaceutical field has grown by leaps and bounds over the past 20 years, as well. Medications are becoming safer, more stable, and more reliable.
-
I mean, fuck, is the NYT going to call into question chemo for cancer patients? "Chemo only works for a small percentage of cancer patients, what is going on?" I bet the survivors are fucking glad they had it!
-
It took me dang near 10 years between my initial mental health diagnosis and getting the medication I have been on daily ever since (another 10 years). Mental health is tricky as heck, but past failures with meds doesn't preclude future successes.
