Maybe because I’m from such a rural area in the U.S. where childhood is so sacred but whenever I hear the words risky play or free play I can’t help but laugh and wonder what type of play were they doing before?

A principal in New Zealand started this idea years ago and they found that bullying went down and marks went up. We need to stop bubble wrapping kids. It does them no good.https://www.sbs.com.au/news/dateline/story/no-rules-school …

Glad to hear this. My kids attended schools that would not allow the game of tag, as someone could slip. No snowballs either. There was no balance of fun and even the smallest risk.

@piersmorgan reading this doesn’t equate to the British schools I know!? Banning children from having snowball fights and even touching snow a few weeks ago?? Like a parallel universe they’re talking about?

At our primary the teachers stopped a test to go out and have a snowball fight. Teachers included. Are they soft up in Yorkshire 😜.

Back in my day, school assembly, the Lord's prayer, then bare knuckle boxing. There were a lot fewer tubby kids then, but that might have been a result of the school lunches.

Excellent article. Taking risks helps to build confidence. It also teaches that actions have consequences. My daughters loved mud play at preschool. At high school camps they had to negotiate wombat holes, high wires, zip lines and surfing. All good experiences.

Our educators are wimps. Our lawyers are destroying what it means to be an American. Society is making boys weak so girls can feel better. It’s a mess.
