Ida B. Wells is considered by historians to have been the most famous black woman in the U.S. during her lifetime. And for good reason.http://nyti.ms/2FsBPIl

For us in Canada it's Civil rights activist Viola Desmond. Nine years before the Rosa Parks story, Viola got arrested in a Halifax theater for sitting in the whites only section. We just honored her by putting her image on our $10 bill. What a trail blazer. What a story.

I've been telling elementary schoolkids how she refused to march at the back of the 1913 women's suffrage parade, as black women had been instructed, instead inserting herself among the white Illinois delegation. Totally ahead of her time. Kids fascinated.

We are in perilous times now. We need more like Ida now to help speak truth to power. Amazing story and tremendous inspiration.

Love this overlooked series. By coincidence, we’re also recognizing Ms. Wells here at Bronzeville’s @illinoistech this month. #BronzevillePride @IITHumanScience @IIT_Dining https://humansciences.iit.edu/news/2018/03/march-center-court-star-ida-b-wells …

The original Rosa Parks. She successfully sued a train company in Memphis for having to give up her seat to a white man. (Tennessee Supreme Court later overturned her victory) There is a reason the Civil Rights Movement was successful, they followed the path from people like her.

You have to have great courage to be against social conventions. Definitely a woman to admire.

Long live the Queen! Her dedication to the AA movement for equality & justice can't be quantified! We rest a little easier, bcuz of her willingness to sacrifice!

You seem to denounce racism against African-Americans but racism against Jews is OK and you’re friendly with anti-Semites. Big shame on you.
