Donald Trump’s victory shook him. Badly. And so Erik Hagerman developed his own eccentric experiment: He swore that he would avoid learning about anything that happened to America after Nov. 8, 2016.http://nyti.ms/2FsyhWx

Half of me sees this as a grown man throwing a year long tantrum. The other half of me wishes I had the money to buy 45 acres of land and hobby all day.pic.twitter.com/9CpqHSXtUV

I agree completely. More like 99 percent of me wants to 'Hobby' and forget the daily trauma that is the Trump presidency.

So the people that know nothing about Russian interference, Mueller, etc are 1) the man from this story 2) anyone solely getting their info from Fox News.

I agree, but I guess he’s got the right to stick his head in the sand. Many people I know can’t handle the stress of the news lately and tho I feel it’s important to be informed I can’t say I really blame them. 😕

You're absolutely right that he can do this, but man it really highlights his privilege. I live in Northeast Ohio and our challenges are profound. Opting out (for someone who has resources to help others become more civic minded) is highly irresponsible to me.

I see your point. Boy I sure wish I had the ability to escape from reality once in awhile. I also wish I had the means to help more than I can.

This is not news, this is a useless article masquerading as news. Leave this to NYPost. Shameful trash from what was once a proud and credible source of news.

As a white male, he has the enormous privilege to be able to exempt himself from following current events. For many others in the US—for women, for immigrants, for POC, for people who identify as LGBTQIA+—choosing to be uninformed is not an option because it’s far too dangerous

It is an insult for the reporter to suggest that Hagerman is a liberal. The core tenet of modern liberalism—do the most good for the most people—is incompatible with Hagerman's remarkable lack of self-examination.

At first blush, this man's willful ignorance made me mad. But at the same time, I really respect his desire to focus on a tangible personal good (the refuge/habitat).

While I do greatly value keeping up with current events, I have to also concede that much of it is feeding into an anger impulse more than being better informed/active. And that kind of sucks.
