In 15 minutes the Florida State Senate approved and then scrapped a 2-year ban on sales of AR-15 rifles — proving that when it comes to backing a significant change, even a popular one, the votes just aren’t therehttp://nyti.ms/2Fc4mlf

The next step is to make sure, following the next election, those Florida state senators just aren't there.

Gun control doesn’t work! 350,000,000 guns in the US, we don’t know who owns what, when, where or why. Any ban now will do nothing to prevent further shootings! Let’s better mental health and stop publishing the names and faces of shooters!!!!!!!

It does work in Australia and here in the UK. In Australia the government bought back guns. It can be done but only if you have the political will to undertake the greatest civilian disarmament in history... #NeverAgain #MarchForOurLives

I'm sorry to say that would cause a civil war here in the US that would lead to so many deaths, it would not be worth it. I respect your opinion but as a citizen of the UK you just can't understand without taking a deep dive into the US gun culture, the constitution and stats!

Obviously no-one is suggesting that you have a civil war! As a country you have to decide how much you want to do. If you do nothing these mass shootings will continue. If you ban and remove all guns you could have 40x fewer gun deaths. Or you could do something in between...

You just said to very opposing ideas while putting the moral burden on us, that is to say that your purposed removal of all guns without the concept of a civil war. Again can't take away guns without a civil war, the moral burden is to avoid hundreds of thousands of deaths!

The moral burden IS on you. Can't you get rid of guns like most other countries and not have a civil war? At the moment you have 33,000 casualties a year... All we are saying is give peace a chance!

The UK has 65.64 million people, we have 321.1 million, stats are per capita, not by land mass! Secondly the moral burden is on US, not me and finally it's insane to just say, "don't have a civil war" and think that is all it takes to make it not happen!

Lawmakers don't want to take individual accountability for their votes. Could be an argument for moving to a "secret ballot" in the legislature so representatives can vote their conscience.

That demonstrates the entire problem. Democracies, by definition, need to be as transparent as possible.

It proves that the legislature is bought and paid for by the gun lobby. It proves the legislature does not represent the constituents. It proves that if the people want representation the must vote out the current legislature.

So by not banning a gun that is the smallest rifle sold in America and has never been used in a mass shooting, and going with the 74% of voters who don't want the ban, the legislature was wrong?

Florida is so screwed up politically. I was born and raised there, but the current governor and GOP legislature make me ashamed to admit it.
