Here's why your pharmacist can't tell you that your $20 prescription could only cost $8http://nyti.ms/2oPjtpM

This also happens with hospital services. I found out that the co-pay I was charged for an outpatient surgery was $200 more than what the hospital charged people that were uninsured. It actually cost me more because I had insurance.

No, they cannot randomly increase the negotiated price. It's fixed, and you pay the lower amount.

My physician told me the uninsured price was cheaper. When I contacted the hospital to complain I was given the lower price.

I meant pharmacy insurance. But you should be able to look up your plan's contractual agreements for medical as well. The amount you pay is predetermined not arbitrarily increased. Drop the plan if ur not saving money

It’s through my employer, which is ironically the hospital where I had the procedure. Sad when you work in a hospital and still get crappy insurance.

Can you please tell me why my pharmacist can't count? Third time I came home with fewer pills in the bottle than prescribed & on the label.

That's potential fraud. You should report it.

I have. I've called them & told them I was missing 20 pills the second time. He got all irate & said that was impossible. I just opened a new bottle tonight. 10 missing & a different manufacturer that they didn't tell me. I had to Google to see if it is right medication.

I work for health insurance and two signs they tell us to watch out for with pharmacy fraud is shorting people pills and switching brand names for generics but billing for brand. If you have health insurance I would call and check to see if they actually billing a different med

They DO sometimes switch without telling people which is not wrong but is rude. So it could just be a sloppy pharmacy but its good to check

Big pharma and the lobbyists. Saved you a click. Side note: in Japan, pharmacists always provide the brand name and generic as options, then patiently explain the differences. Spoiler: there are none.

Don't we need big pharma to "have" a treatment to begin with?

Of course but the difference is, US laws enables these corporations to extort the people. Ex: I paid less than $5 for my 3 different influenza antibiotics for two weeks in Japan.

I agree that essential drugs like most antibiotics should be subsidized, but it's not sinister as you may think. We have to gradually push back on these bad laws.

Call your insurance and ask for a breakdown if cost. They cannot conceal anything.
