Such a sad story, with no easy answers. #NakeshaWilliams was lucky to have so many people caring & watching out for her. Wonder about the pregnancies - raped on the streets? Donating now to @BrGround #homeless #mentalhealth @BenWeiserNYT

How about establishing a fund in
#NakeshaWilliams name? For a@WilliamsCollege scholarship or a@nypl book collection or a counseling program for college students who were sexually abused as children... I'd gladly donate

I just read this and was so moved by it. Thank you for an amazing article that Tells the life of what seems like one of many forgotten souls. It’s such a pity that the outcome is what it is, despite many people reaching out, she always seems just little bit beyond reach.

This breaks my heart. I desperately want to help the young woman who attacked me at Penn Station. But I might not be able to find her. And I might not be able to help her.

Beautiful story, excellent reporting. I’m heartened by the love and support she had. Most people don’t want to get involved. As for refusing help, of course she did. She was mentally ill. Why did no one attempt even temporary guardianship? On medication, she might’ve been okay.

The agony in this abused child becoming a homeless paranoid schizophrenic woman is in the wrong kinds of "help" the well-meaning ignorant pushed on her - shelters, psychiatry, pills. Offer self-determination, safety, trust, logic; so one can process stress, fear, pain - and heal.
