2008, about 7 years into my own acting career. Had to play it myself.

I am still waiting. Latina representation often falls into stereotypes and definitely to the physical but we are so much more - our strength and intelligence need to lead how we are portrayed.

Uh I don’t think I ever relied on Hollywood to look for representation of myself, everyone’s story is pretty unique and I think expecting Hollywood to cover it all is a strange expectation.

Perhaps we all cannot expect to see our personal experiences on the big screen, but the ability to cause the viewers to picture themselves in the role of one of the players is the mark of a good story teller.

I thought Black Panther did a great job of representing oppressed people all over World with a message of power amd great responsibility of loyalty of humanity and good over greed and power.

That hasn’t happened yet. Hollywood has never highlighted the fact that military service members without dependents are subjected to unlawful housing discrimination and receive over $5,000 less annual income than peers with dependents. Info athttp://FamilialStatus.org

In 1985 when I saw Desert Hearts at a sneak preview. I had no idea what the movie was about but when Vivian rolled down the car window and Cay kissed her in the pouring rain, I thought my legs caught on fire.

@kalpenn in The Namesake. I was a wee bit closer to Jhumpa Lahiri’s book, but I’ll take brown and geeky cool over all previous characterizations.
