It’s a complex quid pro quo system that keeps other countries in a place of quasi subservience. Trump will have his WW3. No republican can leave office without starting a war.

Why amplify fact free diatribes? This is more of the same magic balance fairy nonsense that put a reactionary bigot into the WH.

What Trump is going to learn the hard way is that the world no longer needs the US. Trump thinks that starting a trade war is going to help the US, when it imports more than it exports. yea, that's going to work well. In order to make up the hike, they'll increase the price.

Tariffs and trade agreements are never completely fair to all parties. EU tariffs are higher than US tariffs while China has benefited from America’s low tariffs. Historically, America has been an importer of foreign goods with low tariffs to the benefit of consumer.

it's the other way around...the global economy has been subsidizing the US with artificially low raw materials & labor prices with a pass to externalize costs from carbon emissions

Maybe it wasn’t clear but ‘/s’ at end of sentence was for ‘snark’ Hoover’s protectionism and tariffs preceded the Great Depression ;)

That is because part of America got too content, too spoiled and too fat. You don’t deserve a job in 21st century if you only have 20th century skill, let along a 21st century living. Showing a 19th century attitude won’t help either.

The ghost towns have been created by Wal-Mart, and are the result of allowing giant American companies unfair advantages over smaller American companies.

"America" has no such policy, unless you mean its relatively low tax rates have enabled its citizens to be the world's greatest überconsumers. Why blame other countries for our penchant to borrow to consume their products?

Globalization has been around for 500 years. Back then it was just called 'colonization' - In the 16th century, Portugal, Spain, England and France carved up the rest of the world for profit. Back then it was raw materials, now it is cheap labor. The genie is out of the bottle.

Forget ghost towns. Every farm state will become a "ghost state" once Trump's trade war triggers retaliation against U.S. agriculture: dairy, beef, soybeans, corn, etc. These, and more, are dependent upon growing export markets. Without farm $ multipliers, we are ghosted.
