Do you really think people not going to band up, and make their own social communities? This is a nation just lot bigger than a close circle of friends.

I've never been able to understand it. To me, personally, it's so obvious that it hurts. You are not your country, you are not your football team, you are not your tribe. You are you, period, end of story.
-
True, but the thing is... What if the tribe you belong to KILL YOU FOR BEING YOU and justify that to themselves? Not every tribe is the same in terms of philosophy and dedication to individualism. It is the underlying philosophy of ones country that makes it a country.

Let us consider, for a moment, the things which tie us together as a series of technology for solving the problem of large-scale human cooperation. 1.0 Bloodlines 2.0 Religion 3.0 National identity Each of these were a technology that ran on fiction. (Cont)
-
But like any technology, the sum of its parts (what it is built on) are a large factor in determining how vulnerable it is to breaking, or in this case, simply failing at its assigned task. And the weakpoint here is clear. (Cont)
-
Fiction-based mass coordination technologies are susceptible to the subjective opinions and beliefs of the variables (people) who believe these fictions. There is no "fixing it", in my opinion. We have to create a societal technology that doesn't rely on flimsy fiction. (cont)
-
So to answer your question, I would take this and many other societal problems as engineering problems, and attempt to remove the variable of subjective belief from an optimal society as being the deciding factor for individual liberties, and most importantly, standard of living.
-
That is the thing though, these "technologies" as you put them are mere tools for the underlying philosophical beliefs that created them. Now if you are talking about developing an advanced belief system based on logic then that is the hope of many philosophers.
