Seriously impressed w Dick's here. I cant believe children who aren't trusted with a beer (bc they might hurt themselves or others) until 21 are able in most states to purchase a weapon of death at the age of 18 (hint THIS is where we need to be protecting kids from themselves).

Obviously Dick's owners are smart enough to run a huge corporation, so why only 17 deaths made them wake up to their criminal business of selling assault rifles? PR or business sense?

Progress is progress. The legal gun purchasing age should be 21 and I'll applaud any organization or politician who works to make that a reality. #GunReformNow #Parkland

Progress for you is clearly an outright ban on firearms. Hey it’s working great for El Salvador, Venezuela, Mexico, Honduras, and Brazil!

That's actually not "clearly" what I was saying. That is you imposing what you believe I think on me. The 2nd Amendment was written in 1791. Back then it took 2-3 min to load a flintlock rifle. Our guns have changed over the last 227 years, our laws need to change as well.

And the first amendment was written with a quill but here we are. If you look at the federalist papers, the constitution, and Supreme Court cases (Heller, McDonald) you’ll understand what the second amendment means. Legal adults should be able to protect themselves with a firearm

I don't know if you're aware but what you've just typed is very condescending. If you didn't know: Welcome to the World of 2018 wherein intelligent women like me will take the time from our day to invite you into the modern fold of civility.

It is not Either/Or nor This/That Issue. Take gun laws out of the hands of gun manufacturer lobby and put back into hands of the people. American consensus can find ways to protect our children with common sense gun laws AND honor the Second Amendment.

EXACTLY! Jeez, why is this so hard? Believe in America and our ability to find solutions that we can agree on. Let's not abandon the attempt just because it will be hard and might not work perfectly right away. #TheTimeIsNow

The decision to ban anything based on a look is idiotic. The US banned rights on Blacks, Women and LGBT people based on look. The real problem here is to address how these mentally ill people are getting the guns.

The real problem is an excessive number of guns and the exalted gun culture of the U.S. Fewer guns, fewer deaths.

I only agree with the excessive number of illegal guns. I grew up feeding my family from what I hunt and a firearm is what I use safely and legally. Additionally if you look overseas where even police don’t carry the bad guys still do.

Guns were a regular tool around our home when I grew up--legal, non-assault, and long guns only. Here in Canada, we have strict gun control and as a result no mass shootings--schools, concerts, churches, clubs, etc. Again--too many accessible guns in America.

Yes, and we still have too many guns in Canada. But we average about 1 mass shooting a year, and in the US the average is one about every other day.

We definitely don’t have one every other day. We have had a lot and actually have more mass killings from terrorists. It’s all terrible really. There is no cure to stop 100%.

There were 36 mass shootings in the first two months of 2018 in the US - that's an average of more than one every other day. Most of them are not acts of terrorism. Yes there is no way to prevent 100% of them, but there are lots of ways to reduce the frequency
