this guy had no criminal record and purchased his guns legally. what legal action would be appropriate in a situation like that? would it have been acceptable for law enforcement to remove his guns based on red flags?

Agree 100%. No one condones what he did obviously, but reading something into red flags can lead to rights violations pretty quickly. Not a surprise the cops were hesitant in the atmosphere of today.
-
Unless you live in the state of Florida which have laws that would allow those kinds of flags to merit a LE response. LE chose not to do anything.
-
the focus should be on more strongly regulated gun control; age limits, license & insurance, background checks that catch these red flags, not to mention keeping semi automatic rifles off the market. all of this would have been it more difficult for someone like cruz to harm as—
-
many people as he did. law enforcement should be the defense against events like this, but they can’t be the offense too.

This was pure negligence on the part of law enforcement. There are so many pieces and components that need to be fixed.
-
They couldn’t intervene because he didn’t break any laws. This is why people want to change the laws.
-
They also received 46 incident calls relating to the shooter and his brother, the shooter was expelled from the school, they knew he would attack people, kill animals, and on social media, he threatened a shooting. If those aren’t red flags, then there’s a bigger problem here.
-
So why was he able to buy and keep a gun??????
-
That’s something I would love to find out.
-
The reason is terrible gun laws as well as bought and paid for politicians. Then there are stupid people like you who run their mouth without thinking of what actually happens on a daily basis in America.
-
Jesus Christ, that escalated quickly.

Doesn't matter, if he hadn't had an assault weapon he could not have killed 17 people in 7 mins. Its that simple.

His problems should have been nipped in the bud long ago. The gun did not cause any of this

It was more important to blame the NRA then the people actually responsible for this tragedy and the ones who failed to prevent it from happeneing

None of those statements should spur legal action unless he made direct threats. How did the police go his house 30+ times and not think that the kid needed psych eval? To what disturbance were they responding? Did any of these times suggest danger to self, others, or property?
-
A teenager running his mouth is as common as robins in spring. If the police took all these kids into custody we'd fill the jails. There need to be statutes providing the police with the proper tools and mental health professionals with proper facilities. Cart before the horse.
