Raising any child is fine and demanding art.

Well yes, but you are rather missing the point. Parenting a child who is terminally ill or with severe disabilities significantly ups the ante and has many additional challenges that other children just don't have. It is a great deal harder to parent in those circumstances.

I know that. But....parenting any child typical or challenged is a fine and demanding art.

Your seemed dismissive of the difficulties faced by parents when a child has a condition not compatible with life. Parenting a healthy child is not in any way comparable with parenting a child who has a terminal condition.

I have worked throughout my working life with "special needs" children. I hear you and I give you my respect, admiration and I am sorry if it appeared as if though I was not showing the right regard. Ach....computer communication.

Fair enough. 280 characters never allows for a nuanced discussion either. Good on you for being supportive of kids with disabilities. Discussion between people from different countries is also complicated due to differences in preferred terminology. You seem kind. Many thanks

Then don't alienate the little runt. Make her a part of your "caring process". Give her errands, good lords.

Really, give an 16 month old errands? There are situations where the demands of caring for a child who is terminally ill/severely disabled, are so great that there is little time left to parent other children.

No, of course not. I had in mind are the 5-10 yrs old. I'm guessing you're from the west, yes. In my part of the world, there's this thing called extended family. And they don't live in another state, or the other side of the continent. The point is to NOT alienate them.

You are very lucky to have extended family. Unfortunately I couldn't control that my extended family chose to move away for work. No one alienates the kids, it isn't like that. The demands can be so great that the only way would be for extended family to move in.

How do other societies cope with such disabilities? That might help in understanding a lot about how Homo sapiens around the world deal with adverse situations.

Extended family help out, children are abandoned.
