No teacher should be forced to be armed but if a teacher wants to take on that role of protecting children then they should be allowed to do so.

We don't want an America where everyone has to be armed to make it through the day. It will cost the NRA and the GOP everything to try to force that upon us. We will not have guns in sports bars or baby carriages. Less guns is the only option.

Most of Chicago is gun free zones? What now
-
No schools or churches shot up. So what gives?

The RW will happily ignore this man, or say he’s been brainwashed by the Dems, paid by Soros, or is a crisis actor rather than actually listen to what he has to say.

...thank you. No need to add more responsibility to educators . I don’t want that responsibility and the one time I make an error- god forbid...
-
we have a current crisis with police officers that don't get enough training/supoort and make mistakes, but we want to put guns in the hands of teachers with no where near the amount of training. Can't fight fire with fire.

Agreed!!!

Teachers are there to teach not police . I agree . Let’s not forget we do have crazy teachers who get frustrated and take it out on their students , sooooo no they don’t need to have guns . Responsible owners should have their guns but reforms need to be made

More guns won't solve the issue, Preventative strategies should be focus. A driver license and insurance is req'd to drive a vehicle. Why aren't there basic req's for gun ownership, locks & training. Many of these guns are purchased legally and are too accessible.
-
I believe that preventative strategies will be advocted in time.

A "good guy" with a gun, even one who practices at a range regularly, is not equipped to make split-second life&death decisions in an active shooter environment. LEOs get lots of training and have experience with decision-making. Complicates crossfire and shooter ID for LEOs too
-
I agree that a civilian with no uniform may complicate an active shooter situation, but I disagree with your assessment of qualifications on both sides. There are qualified civilians and not all LEO have extensive training/experience, especially in rural areas. Y wait for cop?
-
to answer your direct question, because more will die than if you'd waited.
-
I do not believe that allowing the shooter more time will save lives. That just doesn't make sense to me.
-
it's easy to imagine the "one shot from the good guy and its over, lives saved" scenario. Real life combat is fluid, fast. A pitched gun battle w/innocents around may end up worse than the shelter/evac approach. I'd much rather keep the gun from the assailant than arm the school
-
I'm sure that the next school shooter already has a gun.
-
Fair point but it proves too much. By that logic we would stop trying to limit guns because some already have them. I believe a new environment is possible but we must begin.
-
I agree. It is past time to do something. My opinion is that any crime involving a gun has severe mandatory penalty. No gun crime can be plea bargained away. Severe penalty for any adult that allows their gun get into hands of minor if harm is caused. Age 21 to own gun.
