Anyone who has ever been on a diet knows that the standard prescription for weight loss is to reduce the amount of calories you consume. But a new study may turn that advice on its head.http://nyti.ms/2HzdKwu

Dr. Atkins told us this 30 years ago and was laughed out of the medical profession. One day we will acknowledge that the #sugar industry has killed more people than the tobacco industry and will have created more illness and cancer - @nytimes how about a story on their complicity

dear Sol, a bold statement; however, the more information we gather the more we realize the devastation of sugar. It affects everyone & it is in almost everything. We can pick up a cookie that says vegan and assume it is healthy, we look at the labelling and find 28 gms of sugar

@nytimes completely misrepresented the study which focuses on low carb vs low fat. While the researchers did not assign calorie intake, following a whole food diet will put most in a calorie deficit by default. Hard to eat 4000cal of broccoli

Hopefully, I can eat as much as I want, of any food I desire. I don't want to hear about anything that requires discipline or effort. If it's not that, I'm not gonna read the article.

“Both groups ultimately ended up consuming fewer calories on average by the end of the study, even though they were not conscious of it. The point is that they did this by focusing on nutritious whole foods that satisfied their hunger”. A great way for people to regain health.

Holy shit this is misleading. Just because they didn’t “count” the calories doesn’t mean they didn’t eat fewer calories by consuming more nutrient-dense, lower calorie foods. You need to be in a calorie deficit to lose fat whether you’re actively counting the calories or not!

if you cut sugar and refined carbs chances are you reduce calories considering the typical diet and how delicious those things are.

It's still calorie counting. If you eat 5000 calories of whole foods and vegetables a day, you will still gain weight. It's just very hard to eat that amount. The food is too filling.

Old news years ago... eat protein soon after waking, avoid all sugar and flour, no sweetened beverages or beer, avoid starches (potato, corn), etc. A little fat is okay, a little fruit is ok, but don't expect to lose weight eating a lot of cheese or a whole watermelon
