It is the first time the NCAA has stripped a program of the championship won in the Division I men’s basketball tournament, the organization’s signature eventhttp://nyti.ms/2FiefKL

The scandal is bad, but has nothing to do w/player skill. Vacating the wins literally does nothing but put an asterisk next to the wins. They didn’t cheat to win, they just behaved inappropriately. Fines & disciplinary actions against the program’s leaders is a better option.
-
Wins are considered glory. The NCAA takes a stance to not not glorify any teams that were not up to its code of conduct whilst they gained said glory.
-
and the codes fucked up. It needs to be burnt to the ground and a new governing system needs to be made. The NCAA covers up too much for the 'blue blood' schools and it's painfully obvious between Lance Thomas at Duke and UNC making fake classes to make players eligible
-
That's true. There needs to be a difference between violations that made teams win & ones that were behavioral. UNC made players eligible who shouldn't have been, which allowed them to win more games. UL just did stupid & inappropriate things, but it didn't impact their wins.
-
Honestly it gave them a competitive disadvantage. Recruits actually waked away because they wanted nothing to do with the side show
-
Yes, the same thing that's happened with Ole' Miss. Recruits don't want to be a part of a program that is going to make them miss playoff opportunities and chances to shine as a player. They don't want the drama.

The basketball world will remember who won those 123 games though.

The NCAA can vacate wins but they can never vacate the memories of those wins for the players. The Winning actually happened. Can't change the past, can only face the future
-
Sad fact.. that win only counts until they cease to exist. History is very unforgiving, and once when first hand accounts pass on, only then will we have second hand accounts, aka the NCAA.
-
Truth... I just think it's a shame to punish all the players for the misdeeds of the coaches. Ban them.
-
I thought at first this was a reference to PSU football, but just read UL basketball.. it is a shame.
-
PSU football was a VILE situation. In that instance, children were violated & the program covered it up. Unforgivable. UL basketball involved sneakers & prostitutes.. easier to stomach imo
-
Very much so. I feel NCAA has been on a "rebuilding their image" tirade every since the PSU scandal. Not long after OSU players traded in rings they received from Big Ten, so they could get extra cash for tattoos. They overreacted then and are overreacting now.

It's nothing short of incredible that we have a guy sitting in the Oval Office who has a long history of sex scandals, predatory behavior, and covering for Russian operatives -- yet there are no consequences. Let that sink in.
