Anyone who has ever been on a diet knows that the standard prescription for weight loss is to reduce the amount of calories you consume. But a new study may turn that advice on its head.http://nyti.ms/2EGc9r5

People eat processed foods because they're cheaper and more accessible. Need to fix that.

Reducing sugar and processed grains and replacing with fruit and vegetables reduces calories no need to count them.

Eating mindfully is key. For me, that DOES mean counting calories. It also means I plan my meals. Carbs & sugars are NOT the enemy. OVEREATING is the enemy. You can eat reasonably & lose weight, & you can live that way long term.

Now excuse me while I enjoy the rest of the 1 Pepsi I drink every day. Oh, and now that I know I can eat a chocolate Kiss when I want to, I no longer feel the need to binge on the bag that sits on my desk at work!

Cut carbs and sugars. Surprising eating lean protein, fruits, and vegetables, (and really all you want to eat of those things), reduces excess weight.

Calories still matter. At the end of the article, we learn that despite the “focus” on food quality, participants ended up eating fewer calories. This is just another route to the goal of every diet: Fewer calories in. If this route is easier than others for some, that’s great.

Fruits and vegetables have fewer calories than most other foods. I wouldn’t say counting calories doesn’t work, but I would say focusing on what you consume is important. Food and exercise are the two variables. What you eat is the biggest of the two variables.

Until another study comes along and claiming something different. Our bodies don't produce energy from nothing, so the amount that we put in is directly related to how much is burned or stored as fat. Coming from a recovering fat person, it's a very simple idea.

Counting calories works, also. I lost about 40 lbs by cutting calories consumed.
