.@julieturkewitz — With all due respect, acting as a human shield for their students is *NOT* a “new role” for teachers. Go read up on Sandy Hook.pic.twitter.com/84ElYZphyM

I don't believe this solves anything, a teacher is paid to teach not die.

Gun owners calling for metal detectors and security. Definitely something that CAN be done. And a start.

Except security for protection looks a lot like security for confinement & our schools shouldn't resemble prisons.

This goes for paid metal detectors also. And will these be put in movie theaters, churches, concert venues, grocery stores a I mean - at what point is our unprecedented level of gun violence, the highest of any industrialized country, because of guns, and not everything else?pic.twitter.com/tlUEpMNojl

Well said , but respectfully, if the shooter entered your room would you feel safer with a 357 Mag or would you rather throw books at him and use harsh language or perhaps a time out to protect your students. There is no wrong answer, just pick one you can live with, pun intended

#MarchForOurLives This is asking too much of teachers - if they wanted to be human shields, they'd apply to the Secret Service. Get the gawd-damn assault weapons out of our civilian society.

I am a middle school teacher. I have pictured this in my mind. I would definitely shield my students from attack. I am an English teacher, who must be ready for combat or attack, on any day. There is something very, very wrong with that.

Please buy a gun and lobby for armed security at schools! You shouldn't be defenseless. Your job is teaching not self defense and shooting!
