I'm out of free articles for the month, and the Times has become just *too horseshit* to support with a subscription any more, but... Is this article the granddaddy of Whataboutism that the headline seems to imply?

Not really, I'm out of freebies too..back to that in a minute..it talks about our history of meddling back to 1947..with nyt articles if I'm out of freebies, I can google the first 4-5 words of headline and I can get whole article to read

I know you've gone into full-on vichy mode, NYT, but it's possible to be concerned with US sovereignty, and not condone the US's checkered past with election meddling in Latin America, and elsewhere.

Russia also murders journalists. Should we do the same? Africa is today trading in slaves. There is a global sex trade. Rape & theft are everywhere. Does that make it right? Because members of our government are unethical does it follow that we should allow nations to interfere?

The point is more that no one should be doing it, and raising awareness that the US is guilty of it too, rather than the USA does it to others so it's reasonable to expect it back.

Funny how conservatives suddenly started caring about something America’s been doing for decades. Would they be playing this moral equivalence game if Hillary had been elected with help from Russians?
