As he prepared to deploy to Niger, Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black told his father, Hank, that he loved him. “I placed my hands on his shoulders and prayed for his safety,” Hank recalled. “That prayer was not answered,” Hank said at his son's memorial service.pic.twitter.com/elJCBH2nay

Before he deployed to Niger, Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson told his family that if he died, he did not want to see his name in the news. “I’m going to honor his wishes,” his mother said in response to a request for an interview.

Incredible story. Great reporting. Very sad and confusing how this could happen.

Prayers are words spoken into the air the only value of which is a degree of self-delusional comfort. Our citizens die in misguided, often illegal combat because of politicians controlled by economic actors who don't care about soldiers or sons. Stop praying. Start revolting.

Still no answers either. That’s the worse part. Republicans have kicked those whole tragic episode to the curb...because they don’t care.

I disagree. The prayer was prayed & the prayer was heard but it was not God’s will. Praying for their strength & comfort
