The sexual abuse was common and widely known within the prison, where guards alerted one another if supervisors were coming while they were having sexhttp://nyti.ms/2CqgAjJ

America’s prison system is sick from top to bottom. It only works for profiteers: financial, sexual, political and other. The prison system mirrors the values of a country.

A county spokesman told The Associated Press that many of the allegations “occurred many, many years ago,” and that the prison was safe. Which is probably what they said many many years ago, too.

People, wake up. Such infiltration by criminal sexual preditors must be addressed and remedied. Until it is, be careful who you trust. They look like good guys, but they're not.

Inmates cannot give informed and unpressured consent as they are likely to be afraid of reprisals for failure to comply. It is always abuse when it is a vulnerable population.

I expected more than: “Several female inmates told the grand jury that the guards offered them cigarettes, commissary goods and additional time on the phone in exchange for sex” Consensual exchange is basically prostitution. I’m sure ther is more. Report better

Can't overlook the part about coercion and fear coupled with the power dynamics involved though

Coercion and fear are the reporters words, not the female inmates. “Power dynamics” are buzzwords designed to pigeonhole men. I don’t doubt wrong doing, i just don’t think the reporter got to it.

I don't think it pigeonholes men at all. Correctional officers clearly have power over inmates

Yes but in this article the implication is not that they used their power over the inmates to force them, but rather offered a trade. That is wrong for many reasons but it isn’t assault. I’m sure the assault is there, but this article doesn’t show it.

Why are there males in a female prison. That should stop to avoid temptation and abuse of power.
