If you can't get vitamin D from sun, the best alternative is mushrooms. Even more so if they are sun dried (bottom side up). Just in case anyone needed to know.

This is very informative. Now if I only cared for more then one type of shroom I'd be in business.

I read an article in the @nytimes a few weeks ago about a huge study that showed vitamin D supplements have no beneficial effect on bone density or preventing fractures. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/28/well/vitamin-d-and-calcium-dont-prevent-bone-fractures.html?referer=https://mobile.nytimes.com/search/Vitamin%20D … Discuss.

(I can’t read the specific article you posted b/c I’m out of views) It would depend on why someone is taking it. If it’s simply to get extra D, then it doesn’t help. However, if you have a severe deficiency or no D, then supplements are required to help prevent osteoporosis.

Severe Vit D deficiencies can cause dimentia, MS, the spread of cancer, severe nerve issues... I only know this because 3 weeks ago I found out that I had no Vit D in my body. I had awful symptoms for months (blurred vision, impaired memory, lack of muscle control...).

In addition to taking 100,000 IUs of Vit D a week, I have to take strong calcium supplements as well.

Had sore shoulders for couple years to the extent it was difficult to put coat on. In winter drive to work in dark same home. Rarely outside during week. Saw expert on tv say one symptom vitamin D shortage was joint pain. Took supplement and cleared up in a month.

Yes, deficiencies (even smaller ones) can cause bone pain. It’s amazing how important Vit D is.

Since sunshine causes cancer, no more sun bathing! Opt for the Vitamin D supplements.
