The tyranny of Convenience has also caused us to not truly know how anything works. We don't have configure things out, we just ask Google or ask Alexa. We don't have to understand how to do anything, we just have it done. We are putting ourselves at an intellectual disadvantage

It's immensely frustrating to watch the middle- and high school-level students I tutor unable to navigate a dictionary because they've been spoiled by apps and search engines that provide them with immediate results.

Great article. As a
#millennial I can fully admit we live in a world where we've over-prioritozed convenience to the detriment of hard work and thinking. We expect everything to just do it and do it NOW. The statement that the only the skill is multi-tasking is 100% correct. -
That being said, there is 100% a time and place where convince is good (surgery, stopping crime, etc) but do we really NEED or benefit from having a drone drop off our packages. Do we need or benefit from having ALEXA do everything for us?

I was actually agreeing with Tim Wu (a rarity) on the dehumanizing effects of convenience, and then he had to go and ruin it w/a ridiculous retelling of Napster. Why did people stop using Napster? Well, it was illegal for one. Because we don’t celebrate the convenience of theft?pic.twitter.com/525ipmGLRh

For someone writing from such a narrow, privileged, ableist perspective, this sure uses “we” and “us” a lot. Not all of us have the luxury of rejecting things that make life easier.

The problem with convenience isn't that it makes us dull. It's that the value has all gone to the 1%. With all the automation & efficiency that exists today, none of us should have to work, thus freeing us to pursue enriching endeavors like climbing mtns. Or just call us lazy

Best article! As humans, we need some form of struggle to derive pleasure and meaning from our existence.

I don't need Alexa to turn down the temperature for me. Sometimes that walk to the thermostat is the only exercise I get.

Thx for this! Am watching people give up privacy just 2 have a box switch on the light. I wonder: Is it really that hard 2 get up & turn on the lights? Is it worth giving up ur privacy? How can we seriously complain about NSA & give up our privacy for
