How did a semiautomatic weapon originally designed for warfare become easier to buy than a handgun?http://nyti.ms/2F6jwVK

More guns don’t solve a gun problem. The Second Amendment was written in a time when the US did not have a standing army. The US now has the largest army in the world. There is no need to have guns except for hunting animals. Ban owning guns, regulate to hunting only. #BanGuns

2nd Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, there was no police or any law enforcement agency in many parts of the country. And this is 21st century and you still need a semiautomatic gun to defend yourself??? Who are you bullshitting?

The 2nd amendment wasn't for self defense, but to allow the citizens to be able to overthrow the government and their military if the need arose. Similar to the way that the USA had just been created. That's why this gets tricky.

For the record, I'm actually for enhancing laws to reduce guns getting into the hands of the wrong people. We just need to do it the right way.

Why does a civilian need a semi automatic in the first place?

Do you mean you agree with him or that the article is true? I ask because the headline is not true. The AR-15 was adapted from a weapon designed for warfare. Not designed for warfare itself. It just used the name as the original while the original became the M16.

I think all guns are designed for warfare, even though they’re fun to shoot on the range or at birds

When they realized you can kill faster with a semi automatic gun than with a handgun, why else? It's just wrong to sell someone a gun designed for warfare when they're not fighting a war.

Please elaborate on this. Understand the difference between auto and semi-auto. Realize that handguns are semi-auto as well. 1 trigger pull=1 shot fired by both. I appreciate the place you're coming from, but please educate yourself a little more on the basics. Neither is faster

True but you have a 30 round clip and taped you have 60 rounds a handgun has 17 at best. A semi automatic rifle can be converted to full auto in about an hour. The .233 auto round not available for handguns is light and breaks apart to do most damage.

30 round mags for handguns are readily available.

Okay but a handgun firing 30 rounds steady one clip after another can overheat and jam. The AR 15 like the M 16 are designed for war and the handgun is designed a a sidearm. That's why these maniac use an AR 15 they're expecting a war and don't want the gun to jam.

Nice try. AR not designed for war. That's probably why no armies on earth use them. Not designed for sustained fire.

You have zero knowledge that the use of an AR in this instance was more or less effective than if he had used a handgun.
