Here's what I know from living abroad and traveling abroad. People love when you try. No one expects people passing through to be fluent, but you should know a few basic words, it can make a big impact, and it's respectful. Learn a few words and go explore!

I agree with ‘You needn’t be fluent to travel smartly’ but, don’t you think it will be thoughtful to learn basic words or sentences for local people? I’m sure they will appreciate the efforts too! Remember we’re also foreigner to them😉

Good tips. With translate apps don't have to bring along travel language books anymore. But need to doublecheck the mobile data options abroad so you won't end up being surprised by a huge bill from the phone provider.

Have an open mind, be vigilant but approachable. Journeying the roads less travelled also mean that one can only prepare so much.
