Under federal law, you must be 21 to buy a handgun from a firearms dealer. But 18-year-olds can buy semiautomatic rifles.http://nyti.ms/2EtqbrM

There is no need for anyone to own an AR-15. I hunt and have never had the desire to purchase an AR-15. These types of weapons need to be banned, not shotguns, bolt action rifles, or handguns. We have the right to defend ourselves as Americans.

I support the 2nd amendment and tough background check with safety classes. You sound really silly saying ban ar15's but support hand guns. When the FBI as reported more Americans are murdered by handguns than any other. Virginia tech murderer had glocks when he slaughtered kids.

Very true but if you look at all the mass school shootings what was the primary gun they had/used? Of course people can still kill with guns but it makes it much more difficult when you don’t have semi automatic weapons. Handgun is much easier to stop than a semi auto rifle.

The picture is a bolt action rifle, not semi auto, not an AR. The standard run of the mill hunting rifle. Holds 5 rounds.

This headline is designed to fire up people who don't know that handguns are tougher to buy than ARs bc handguns have been determined to be concealed more easily than rifles. Way to throw gasoline into the fire, NYT.

P.s. The picture is a bolt action rifle. Not a semi-automatic one. The journalists and editors might want to brush up on their basics if they dont want to blow off their readers with idiotic photos.
