The idea of setting prisoners up with degree programs only to turn them loose onto a world that will not hire them because they have a felony is some bullshit in the first place. This is a bait and switch to showcase phony humanitarian reform efforts. It's the sugar coating.

Yeah. May as well give them NO chance, rather than at least SOME chance.

What kind of a chance is that? When you give somebody false hope to make them behave while they're locked up only to set them free so they can find out all you were trying to do was keep them in-line with an unsustainable goal. It's called placating and it's foul to do.

But despair and hopelessness is more conducive to getting their feet back under them, and motivating them to at least try. It's not like there's ZERO chance that they'll be hired. "Hope" isn't a certainty, it's a chance. It's motivational. It can literally change lives.

Or we can be realistic and give people the training they need in the first place like basic life skills then follow that up with vocational training that actually applies to the life they will eventually go back to. Provide them with actual help instead of false hope.

Will education increase their chances of employment after they are released? Probably not.

Yes, yes, & yes! When they have paid their debt to society & are released, the skills to become a contributing member of society are necessary.

If Your aim is to never have prisoners back in society again .then why educate them? If You however find it important to make them fit in to and become active citizens then maybe educating them is not such a bad idea after all!

Ok...this is ridiculous. Our taxpayer dollars go to educating these people? I can understand getting their high school diplomas. But college? Prisoners should be treated uhh...LIKE PRISONERS. No fancy tv or recreation or opportunity for improvement.
