        so he wants immigrants to "steal" the good jobs? Who picks the fruit, makes the hotel beds, washes restaurant dishes? Keep those for 2nd gen americans? how do immigrants integrate w/out the support network of family and friends?

        This is the danger: who gets to define "merit"? The USA has always been a place where people come to build their own success, and they've done it in a million different, unexpected ways. Much better to define "demerits" and let everyone without demerits have a chance.
