From @nytopinion: In theory, in a democracy, the majority should influence — some would even say determine — the distribution of income. In practice, this is not the case. Why? asks @Edsallhttp://nyti.ms/2Coju8E

My earned income is mine. Not the majority. No democracy has a theoretical right to take it. It is only mine to agree to contribute as I see fit. My hard work and personal drive makes everyone more free and wealthy. Socialism kills and #socialismsucks

In “Theory”, we were founded as a Republic and shouldn’t be worried about a democracy determining wealth redistribution. In practice, we’re not even in the ballpark.

I guess the JIM CROW SOUTH is why we should not encourage the tyranny of the majority. Is the Intelligentsia really this shallow now? Has tearing down all the statues also wiped away the history?

Somebody needs to instruct Edsall on the type of government in place within the USA. It kind of erodes his fundamental argument.

Is inequality even a bad thing? It's about choice. And there are multiple ways to live life. Getting rich is not THE answer. Poor people, however miserable they may be are way happier than 'rich guys' living way above their means. The real problem is the culture of victimization.
