As a candidate, Donald Trump was very critical of the size of the federal deficit. As president, he has proposed a budget that would add $7 trillion to it. Republicans are saying nothing.http://nyti.ms/2F2xyaJ

You don't file bankruptcy over and over and over again because you are skilled at budgets. Add the desperate need to feed your ego with things like military parades into the mix and 7 trillion extra debt will be just the tip of the debt iceberg. He is a financial disaster.

Right, he never put federal programs in place that cost more money, wrecked foreign trade, etc. I’m not even the biggest Trump fan, but the left is so ridiculous with its blind eye to the Obama administration.

I agree as sometimes Trump does some good things and just pure hatred over everything just turns voters off to them. Even a broken clock gets the time right twice a day.

#MMT supporters (mostly progressives) insist that deficits don't matter. Looks more like both sides only dislike deficits proposed by their political opponents. Otherwise, they are fine.

Deficits should be counter-cyclical: run up debt during depressions, pay of debt with surpluses during periods of economic strength. That's not "progressives" it's Keynesian economists.

Sure, that's Keynes 101 (not saying I agree, just pointing out). But I believe that #MMT adherents say deficits don't matter, period, they say nothing about counter-cyclical. I blv they say govt sector deficit = private sector surplus, no?

Deficits do matter, just not the way people think. The budget should move counter-cyclically to stabilize the economy, but there's no reason to assume it needs to be in surplus. The budget should not be a target, the economy should be. Budget should be whatever it needs to be.

complicit. They should all be indicted. What's happening to this country under #Trump and #GOP is outrageous. As the great parliamentarian Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".
