Opinion: What does it mean about race and opportunity that many of the most celebrated black people in American cultural life happened to have been born to one white parent?http://nyti.ms/2EUJJ9x

A genetic explanation comes to mind. Always a problem for the left that so many Black people succeed despite White oppression

"genetics" is THAT WORD that racist white folks love to reach for, when they attempt to keep us in check. And black folks succeeding 'in spite of';, does not speak for the majority, unfortunately. But if genes were an indicator of intellect, WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO TRUMP?

Besides Obama and maybe Tracy Ellis Ross, does any look at those people and think black? How many people that are 100% black that you’re just ignoring for the purpose of this dumb article

What does someone’s white parent have to do with their success when the world is looking at their probably black face?? Plus, bi racial births have sky rocketed so it would make sense for them to have more visibility alongside our ‘pure’ brothers and sisters. Seriously NYT?

But tbh biracial people have a better chance at success in a society where whites hold most power

I think it’s more of an issue of having influential parents than anything (who admittedly tend to be white when they are powerful). Even so, we aren’t white. We aren’t treated as such and I think the premise of the NYT article is way off base in general.

I would have thought that DNA would have proven that race is a construct, meant to divide and conquer, but ignorance prevails. #HumanRace

Uh. So the white parent is coming to the job interviews? Maybe, just maybe, cultures vary, and certain cultures are more aimed towards finance goals. Maybe race is meaningless? Maybe adopted cultural influences, what is chosen, to focus on in families have actual effects.

Being into monster trucks, or being into gangster rap, has nothing to do with race. But when it is reported that liking museums, or reading, or learning economics at a young age is "racially dictated", as if it's a white thing, dosent that form racial lines that inhibit success?

Here it is simplified. Culture matters, and effects success. Race does not determine culture. Many people say certain cultural things are "white" or "black". That is a racist thing to say.
