The left loved the idea of a big stimulus, but the timing was far different: It was in the aftermath of the financial crisis.http://nyti.ms/2Cc24fq

More revisionist history from what’s assumed to be a left-leaning pub. Check the votes. The stimulus and bailouts were very unpopular in the GOP. They only passed because of a Democratic majority. Fox News hammered Obama for it all. But it saved the economy.

@Neil_Irwin Have you lost your damn mind? The Bush tax cuts coupled with financial deregulation resulted in near-depression, sky-rocketing deficit and debt, and millions of lost jobs. The only thing stimulated were the bank accounts of the top 1%.

I believed it worked at a time the nation was facing economic disaster. All the uncertainty was replaced by stability and years of sustained growth. Not enough to satisfy the greedy but a lot to be said for consistency and protracted period of calm

At an economically irresponsible and unwarranted time. We need to prepare for the next downturn.

Exactly!!! We should now be doing the opposite! Raise taxes, cut spending, pay off some of the debt, if the economy slows to much, then let up.

And keeping the 260,000 jobs at GM and Chrysler open was a bad move, tell that to the men & women and their families! Not mention we even made a small profit off those businesses! Bailing out the banks was questionable, no doubt!

It always makes me laugh when all you can do is point to General Motors and yet Chrysler took the same bailout and is doing quite well.

They blocked stimulus at a more critical time. Are now courting inflation and interest rate increases.

Actually it was the people who were overwhelmingly against it. It was big banks who were in favor. Shockingly, they sided with the banks.

That left wing GOP passing tax cuts for the rich and blindly throwing money at the Pentagon, what a bunch of crazy liberals.

Stimulus was used by Obama when the economy was headed towards depression. Why is Trump and the Republicans using stimulus and deficit spending now? It makes no sense other than greed by the donors
