I remember taking a trip to NYC with my wife 6 or 7 years ago. True to the stories, I, as a black man, was unable to get a cab in any of the 3 boroughs I visited. I've never had a problem getting a pickup with Uber. So, that door swings both ways.pic.twitter.com/q0WT4n26wE

Interesting input. I hadn't thought of that.

At one point, we were in Queens, and there was a gas station full of cabs. Not one. I went up to this one guys window and asked him for a ride back into Manhattan... He completely ignored me, and he was black too! We ended up finding a subway station. It was humiliating
-
While I find these stories shocking and hard to believe, I know they are 100% true. Please know not all humans are the same. Very sorry you had such a frustrating and humiliating experience.
-
Thanks, man. Appreciate it

Anytime. Despite what some ignorant MEffers may say, we need each other, now more than ever.

This happened to the whalers when we discovered crude oil. Happened to the carriage industry when we went horseless. Happened to computer programmers in the 80’s. It’s called progress.

As a female, I don’t get how any female is willing to use Uber. Might as well hitch hike.
-
In my 20’s I was kidnapped by a taxi driver. In my 40’s I had a taxi driver sexually harass me, threaten my 8 yr old daughter for standing up to him and he tried to extort more money from me. Bad people exist just about anywhere.

It is a competitive world. Adapt or face the consequences. Taxis have been extorting us for years.

Taxi wanted to charge me $80 from JFK to Bronx. Lyft was $45. That’s why they’re going out of business.
-
Exactly, it’s cheap because it’s not sustainable. When the cabs are all gone wait and see their how their prices rocket. Then all you are left with is a stranger in his own car less regulated than a taxi. Enjoy.
-
I have my car so I barely use either service, but if something is almost twice as much I’m going with the cheaper one almost always. People on a budget are not loyal to one service or brand. And what about the man struggling to make ends meet who drives for Uber to feed the kids?

“Disruption” = the workforce gets screwed. An unfortunate trend in the era of the gig economy.

This is what Walmart and big box stores did to small business, and what Amazon is doing to Walmart and big box stores

Disruption is coming. Everyday I teach people the only way to stop it from affecting us is to refuse to participate. We must learn to say no to some technology. I refuse to use services that don't have people
-
No, we need to tax artificial intelligence/automation & establish a basic income. Otherwise we lose the majority of our consumers & that will crash the economy. 10% of our jobs are driving, automating them will affect every other industry.
