First, he went after the media, while simultaneously moving against the judiciary. Next came the erosion of the country’s checks and balances, which has helped him share the spoils of power with his allies.http://nyti.ms/2G2nIVI

Viktor Orban, who has transformed Hungary into what he calls an "illiberal democracy," is now possibly the EU's greatest political challenge, @PatrickKingsley writes http://nyti.ms/2nX4l9b pic.twitter.com/jACy7jndpP

Very sad stuff happening in Hungary. At some point the EU will have to do something. Orban cannot continue to take EU cash whilst slowly and openly eroding democracy. Ironic goven that only 30 yrs ago Hungary was behind the Iron Curtain under Russia's control with no democracy...

Then leave the EU. Migrants aren't a problem in Hungary because Hungary doesn't let them in! What Orban is doing to democracy in Hungary has nothing to do with migrants or the EU. It has everything to do with consolidating power.

Ah. Your there's your agenda. Fine. Jews controlling political parties? And there I was thinking that evangelical Christians had the republican party by the balls... look, if you see conspiracy everywhere then you'll not see democracy anywhere. Orban's approach isn't democratic.

Influences are everywhere. It's been the way of the world for Millennia. People leverage influence where they can. Politicians are bought. Donors influence policy. People get to vote for parties with vested interests. But I prefer that to leaders shutting down the opposition.
