Jasper Johns, now 87, is widely regarded as America’s foremost living artist. He's still not interested in explaining his work.http://nyti.ms/2nPSAS0

why should he explain it? Either you enjoy it or you don't. That's what art's all about.

Jasper Johns was the first artist that made an impression on me without someone telling to like them first. Legend.

John's 3 flags circa 1958, symbolism of McCarthyism juxtaposed against modern day @nytimes & @washingtonpost with their insinuations of Trump, a Russian spy. No wonder he won't tell you what he thinks.

An Artist,a writer, a musician or Actor should not explain the work. The work should be interpreted by the audience of that work for themselves.

IDK what that even means. Did Pollock "explain" his work? And even if he did, would that have changed anything?

Jasper Johns ate my grandma's ass in 1976 at a bicentennial event in New Hampshire and she didn't shut up about it until she died last year. One of her favorite things to say was, "His paintings are weak, but his ass eating game is strong."

He shouldn't have to explain his art! His art is for the viewer to enjoy and interpret themselves.
